About South Africa

South Africa is a republic at the southern end of the African continent. Pretoria is the administrative capital, Cape Town the legislative capital, and Johannesburg the largest commercial city. About 63 million people live here. It borders Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Eswatini and Lesotho, with Atlantic and Indian Ocean coasts. It has twelve official languages, including English. The currency is the rand (ZAR).

It is Africa’s most industrialised economy and a G20 member, with a large domestic market in mining, manufacturing, finance and services. English is the working language of business in the larger cities. Company and banking practice is sophisticated. Exchange control remains in force: moving capital and current payments across the border is a regulated process, not an automatic right.

Brikseka forms South African companies. The usual vehicle is a private company (Pty Ltd) registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC). No local director is required. Incorporation can start remotely; identification, banking, or immigration may still require travel. Typical registration at CIPC takes one to three weeks.

We then advise on a business bank account and local payment processors, including Paystack and PayFast. South African banks often require presence. Approvals are decided by the providers. Exchange-control rules can affect how the company is funded and how funds leave the country. If your aim is to live in South Africa, company formation is not a residence permit — that is a separate immigration file, which we also advise on.

  • Company formation

We form a Pty Ltd at CIPC. Incorporation can start remotely; a visit may still be needed for banking or immigration.

  • Pretoria, Cape Town, Johannesburg

A G20 operating market with three political and commercial centres and a large English-speaking business community.

  • Exchange control

South African exchange-control rules apply to cross-border funding and transfers. We treat them as part of the file, not as a footnote.

  • Tax setting

Corporate income tax is published at 27 percent. Dividends tax and exchange-control practice sit alongside. We confirm the live position before you proceed.

How we work

From briefing to a registered company

  1. Briefing

We review your business, the right entity for this country, costs, and whether a visit is likely.

  2. Company formation

Local counsel, notary where required, and the commercial register. We coordinate the documents through to a registered company.

  3. Banking and payments

After the company exists, we prepare applications for a business account and payment gateways.

  4. After incorporation

Statutory records, a named contact, and introductions to accounting so the company can operate.
