About Slovenia
Slovenia is a republic in Central Europe, between the Alps and a short Adriatic coast. Ljubljana is the capital and the largest city. About 2.1 million people live here. It borders Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. Slovenian is the official language. The euro is the currency.
Slovenia joined the European Union in 2004, the euro area in 2007, and is in Schengen. It is a compact, high-income EU market with strong links to Austria, Italy and the rest of Central Europe, and a small port opening on the Adriatic. Ljubljana is the administrative and commercial centre. The legal system is civil law.
