Country overview
About Oman
Oman is a sultanate on the south-eastern Arabian Peninsula. Muscat is the capital and the largest city. About 5.2 million people live here. It borders the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, with a long coast on the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Arabic is the official language. The currency is the rial (OMR).
Oman is used as a Gulf operating base with a quieter commercial profile than Dubai or Riyadh. Free zones at Sohar, Salalah and Duqm allow 100 percent foreign ownership and are the usual path for wholly foreign trading and logistics companies. Mainland limited liability companies are also available. English is used in business in Muscat.
Brikseka forms companies in Oman. The usual vehicles are a limited liability company or a free-zone company in Sohar, Salalah or Duqm. Free zones allow 100 percent foreign ownership. A visit is sometimes required, particularly for identification or banking. No local director is required for a standard free-zone filing. Timeframes typically run from three to eight weeks.
We then advise on an Omani business bank account and on local acquiring. Stripe is not available as a merchant account on an Omani company. Banks typically expect presence in Oman. Approvals are decided by the providers. If your aim is to live in Oman, company formation is not a residence permit — that is a separate immigration file, which we also advise on.
