Country overview
About Norway
Norway is a constitutional monarchy in Northern Europe. Oslo is the capital and the largest city. About 5.6 million people live here. It borders Sweden, Finland and Russia, with a long North Sea and Atlantic coast. Norwegian is the official language. The currency is the krone (NOK).
Norway is not a member of the European Union. It is in the European Economic Area, in EFTA, and in Schengen, which gives companies access to the EEA single market without EU membership. It is a high-income economy in energy, shipping, industry and services. Oslo is the commercial centre. Costs and substance expectations are those of a Nordic operating jurisdiction, not a lightweight filing.
Brikseka forms Norwegian companies. The usual vehicle is an aksjeselskap (AS). Share capital of NOK 30,000 is required. A resident board is required: at least half of the directors, and the general manager, must ordinarily be resident in Norway or another EEA state unless an exemption is granted. Company documents can often be prepared remotely; identification, banking, or immigration may still require travel.
We then advise on a business bank account and payment gateways such as Stripe and PayPal. Norwegian banks typically expect a local connection. Approvals are decided by the providers. If your aim is to live in Norway, company formation is not a residence permit — that is a separate immigration file, which we also advise on.
Company formation
We form an AS with share capital of NOK 30,000 and a board that meets Norwegian residency rules, then stay with the file through banking and payments.
