Country overview
About Malta
Malta is a republic of three inhabited islands in the central Mediterranean, south of Sicily. Valletta is the capital. English and Maltese are official languages. About 570,000 people live here. The euro is the currency.
Malta joined the European Union in 2004, the euro area in 2008, and is in Schengen. It is a small, English-speaking EU jurisdiction used for operating companies, financial services and Mediterranean trade. Professional-service standards are high for the size of the islands. Valletta and the surrounding harbour towns are the administrative and commercial centre.
Brikseka forms Maltese companies. The usual vehicle is a private limited company (Ltd). A company secretary is mandatory. Incorporation can be completed remotely; identification, banking, or immigration may still require travel.
We then advise on a business bank account and payment gateways such as Stripe and PayPal. Maltese banks are tighter for non-resident owners than the registry step. Approvals are decided by the providers. If your aim is to live in Malta, company formation is not a residence permit — that is a separate immigration file, which we also advise on.
Company formation
We form a Maltese Ltd, including the mandatory company secretary, then stay with the file through banking and payments.
European Union and euro
EU member since 2004, in the euro area and in Schengen. English is an official language. A Maltese company sits inside the single market.
Central Mediterranean
A compact English-speaking EU base south of Sicily, with Valletta as the capital.
Tax setting
Headline corporate tax is published at 35 percent. A refund system can bring the effective rate lower for qualifying shareholders. We confirm the live position before you proceed.
