Country overview
About Greece
Greece is a republic in South-Eastern Europe, on the Balkan peninsula, with a large Aegean and Ionian island chain. Athens is the capital and the largest city. About 10.4 million people live here. It borders Albania, North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Turkey. Greek is the official language. The euro is the currency.
Greece joined the European Union in 1981, the euro area in 2001, and is in Schengen. Athens is the commercial and administrative centre of a sizeable EU market in shipping, tourism, services and regional trade. The country sits at the meeting point of the EU, the Eastern Mediterranean and South-Eastern Europe. The legal system is civil law.
Brikseka forms Greek companies. The usual vehicles are an ιδιωτική κεφαλαιουχική εταιρεία (IKE), the private company used for most operating businesses, or an ανώνυμη εταιρεία (AE) where a public limited structure is required. Company documents can often be prepared remotely; identification, banking, or immigration may still require travel.
We then advise on a business bank account and payment gateways such as Stripe and PayPal. Approvals are decided by the providers. If your aim is to live in Greece, company formation is not a residence permit — that is a separate immigration file, which we also advise on.
Company formation
We form an IKE or an AE with Greek counsel, then stay with the file through banking and payments.
European Union and euro
EU member since 1981, in the euro area and in Schengen. A Greek company sits inside the single market and invoices in euro.
Athens and the Eastern Mediterranean
A large EU domestic market centred on Athens, with maritime and regional links across the Eastern Mediterranean.
Tax setting
Corporate income tax is published at 22 percent. We confirm the live position before you proceed.
